Raid Frames

by on May.31, 2008, under Gameplay, PvP

I got on with no particular plan, but I had loaded grid to see how it was.  I was looking for more compact raid frames.  I have been using Pitbull but found it difficult to see everything I wanted to without them being so large that they were taking up too much of my screen, especially if I were to play AV.

So I did EOTS since it was EOTS weekend and found grid to be not for me.  It was not very intuitive to me at all.  I also disliked how many pieces it was in (modules).  I kept logging out getting more of them and seeing if that made it useable.

Eventually I settled on trying Perfect Raid again.  Perfect raid is made by the same author as my Clickcasting mod Clique.  It was originally awesome, but the he made it supper configurable and I could never get it to work back like it did originally.  Well this time I loaded it up and it was as perfect as it used to be.  For some reason I didn’t take any screenshots, I’ll take one later and insert it.

So for the rest of the evening I just PvP’d.  I had a good time actually, I even won WSG!    I really need to get some better PvP gear though, I have punny ammounts of healing in mine, but over 10k health and 330 resilience :)

Adventurous Evening

by on May.30, 2008, under Gameplay, Questing

I got on and Inian was already doing some stuff.  I haven’t been on for the past few days too busy with other things.  I was ready for some excitement.  Inian was over in Shadowmoon getting Ata’mal Armaments so I decided to join him, I had that quest and I needed to make some Shadow cloth.  So after we were done getting the armaments I thought hey lets go look in the Black Temple.

Us in the Black Temple

So we took a peep inside and snapped a few screenshots.  After that I was like lets go look at the other raid instances just for the hell of it.   It is the kind of thing Inian and I would do :)  So we had other dailies we did along the way and Inian used his new Theremore port and off we went to the caverns of time!

Creating Primal Mooncloth in the Caverns of Time

As we were heading towards Mt Hyjals entrance I saw a moonwell.  I still needed to make my Primal mooncloth and figured I’d check to see if it was a real one, sure enough it was!

She\'s HUGE!

We continued into the instance and looked around the little city your in, all the doors to the buildings are boarded up and we have Ms Proudmore here completely out of scale!  She is HUGE!  She apparently stats the event that is this raid instance.  Never really read anything about this instance since I figured I’d never be in it.

More Mt. Hyjal Exploration

You can mount in here so we ran around looking at things, and found this nice undead base.  Figured this is where all the trouble is.  Kind of neat looking with little packs of ghouls running around everywhere.

Event triggered time to run!

Just before we left, we triggered the even and Inian opened us up a portal.  When the ghoul packs came a running, we ported leaving Ms Giant Proudmore to her doom!

Serpent Shrines HUGE elevator

Next we went into Zangamarsh, did the fishing quest for shrimp, then headed to Serpent shrine!  This was the giant elevator in the beginning you encounter that takes you WAY down.

Down in the depts of Serpent Shrine

We went down to the bottom and looked around, it was quite the interesting looking dungeon.

Tempest Keep

Lastly we did our dailies in Netherstorm then visited Tempest Keep.  The guild had actually been doing this with another guild at some point.  That recently fell apart however.  I don’t know if they are looking for another partner.

Mana Tombs Duo\'d

After that I had been talking about trying to see if we could farm one of the instance enchants.  The 12stam boot enchant.  It apparently drops off Priests in Manatombs.  I was mentioning I read a Rogue or mage and solo farm for it so Inian and I figured we could do pretty good.  It was actually pretty easy.  We easily moved as fast or faster than a full group of appropriately leveled players.  Initially we paste the first boss and just went into the main room filled with Priests and did that.

Downing the second boss

Then Inian sees some Anctient Lichen behind the big rock boss and gets Brave :P  So we see if we can take him.  After we do so surprisingly well even though I considered him a more melee boss we started talking about trying to complete that escort quest in here that he never did.

Downing the first Boss

We finished clearing to the quest then went back to kill the first boss.  We pull him and die because we hadn’t cleared that room all the way and apparently he agros everything.  This is the only time we died tonight.  So we come back and clear the room then pull him again.  We made short work of him and went back for the escort.

Finally finishing Inians old quest

The final act of the night was completing this quest for Inian.  In I think the first or spawn of mobs we had a very unfortunate double mana burn of of each of us by some dark casters leaving me and him in pain and I lost Inian but got a scarab proc at just the right time.  I saved myself and kept me and the NPC alive while he finished off the mobs, only 2 were left Inian killed the rest.  Then I rezed Inian real quick and on we followed.  In the next set of mobs I feared to try and keep them distracted and we kept everyone alive.  We continued down the escort all the way to his little confrontation with that goofball at the end and then we toasted that guy so fast it wasn’t even funny completing the quest with a triumphant “Jobs done!”.

This was a fun act for me, I always enjoy seeing what Inian and I can do together.  Though nether one of us can really take hits we have a good set of abilities that allow us to overcome overwhelming odds :)  Not to mention both of us are very experienced at our classes :)  It was a very adventurous night indeed!

The Slaughter Continues

by on May.26, 2008, under Gameplay

My Quest For A Circle

I continued my slaughter of the Deadwood and in my quest for the perfect circle this was the best I could come up with!

White Meat or Dark Meat?

I found this pull interesting as the light ones showed up on one side while the dark on the other :)

Murky Wanted To Join the Fun

Eventually Murky came out to join the fun.  I eventually got competition too, a bunch of level 50ish Alliance showed up.  Well I really wouldn’t call them competition so much :P

I did some reading to make sure there wasn’t something I didn’t know about this faction and found out I was doing the grind a bit wrong.  I had already turned in some feathers and that is a no no.  The rep you get per kill goes away at revered!  Booooo Didn’t know that, but now I do.  I did get honored and now I have all the tailored items and enchants :)   Of course now I must continue  my grind to revered and NOT turn in feathers until I hit revered.

Timbermaw Faction

by on May.26, 2008, under Gameplay

Furby Slaughter

Logged on today and collected all my AH gold, yes I’m above 4k again yay!  I did a couple of quick dailies then I decided it was time to work on a faction I always wanted to finish, the Timbermaw.  So off I went to slaughter their enemies!  With my current regen, and Holy Nova  I can gather up like 20 of them and kill them no problem :)   I have a feeling Holy Nova is going to be my friend as I work on these older factions :)   The old world is a nice change of scenery too.  I’m really looking forward to WOTLK to go back to some traditional fantasy looking things.

Laneer of the Shattered Sun

by on May.25, 2008, under Gameplay, PvP, Questing

Magnanimus Benefactor

Yes I am finally exalted with the Shattered Sun Offensive.  I decided after doing that that I would like to finally have another title other than Sargeant.  So I took the plunge, after all its only money!  Sadly it will cause me to drop below 4k again but I’ll get it back.

Replinishing my Stamina food

I started out the day doing some fishing before I started on Dailies to replinish my stamina food which was almost gone.  In the process I also replinished my healing food too woot!

Getting Energon Cubes

There was absolutely no competition out at Bash’irs landing and I was able to get all my energon cubes for the quest quickly.  I find this quest odd because I don’t get why we need to power this portal while there are almost a dozen other protals that aren’t powered at all.

The wrangler quest!

On my way back I stopped to do a couple of my favorite Ogrl’a quests.  Doing the Wrangling one is a particular favorite.  I noticed the guy who gives the quest is mounted now.  Atleast I could swear before he was on the ground and there was a ray next to him.  I did this one and the bombing one, I always enjoy bombing :)

20 Rep from Exalted

After all that I went to the island and was doing all those quests trying to get exalted.  I had one quest left to turn in and you could see here I was 20 rep from exalted :)   I turned that last quest in and got exalted.  A little later I did the fun root quest with Inian while he was out there trying to get the gland.  He had been killing the guys forever and not getting a gland and I decided to run over and join him when he had just killed one and I got there and picked up the gland.  It turned out he didn’t have the quest the whole time!  So I was able to share the quest with him and we finished that one.  Deathwing is being pretty slow about finishing the Alchemy Lab it seems.

After that we went back to the island and I turned in the quest and also turned in my 1000 gold, where I started this post and got my new title.  I ran around with Inian doing his dailies and practicing my dagger skills along with harrasing all the horde we could :)

We were coming back from this one quest out where the robots and ugly guys are and we see a rogue beating up on a restro shammy.  So we stop to help and the rogue uses all his tricks to some how slip through our fingers and makes it to the guards (we were pretty close).  Well I’m in hot persuit and get agro from the guards as soon as he gets there.  I’m being punted constantly by them, but you’ll never guess this…I lived!  I wish I had recorded this it was the most amazing thing, but Inian can account for it.  They kept hitting me and I was doing everything I could, renew, Desperate Prayer, Prayer of Mending, Shields, Pots.  Finally they deagroed after punting me like half way down the coast, but all the while they kept agroing those stupid ugly guys on me.  They were draining my mana, silencing me, hitting me and I had 4 or 5 of them so I’m trying to still live.  I managed to get away from them and live with maybe 100 HP left.  It was pretty insane but the only way I think I did that is I was wearing my PvP gear and had my 335 resilience to help.

By the Monument

We finished up Inians quests and called it a night after going and doing a few battle grounds.  We did one AV and won.  Then we did a WSG and lost of course.  I had the AV daily from before, Inian had today’s daily which was WSG.

Before bed I did some cleanup in the bank and sold off a bit of enchanting supplies I was over flowing with.  If it all sells it SHOULD put me over 4k again if my math is right :)   No instances today, no badges :(   Never got around to it!  Plenty of other stuff done though.  Now my only reps to work on are oldworld reps!

Almost Done

by on May.24, 2008, under Gameplay, Questing

I got on fairly late and was going to try to run some Heroics and Inian had already been doing so.  His group was about finished with the Botanica they were running and they were going to do something else and they were going to have an opening.  So I waited till they were done and just continued to do my dailies.

We did a Heroic Slavepens run which for some reason I never managed to take a screenshot during :P It went fairly well but we did have a few “incidents”.  So I managed to get 3 badges out of that anyways.  The funniest part of the run was the Paladin tank kept thinking the Crab boss was the hardest boss ever.  He might be hard with a paldin if you didn’t have a lot of  plus healing since they really only have 2 heal spells to use.  But for a Priest I have PoM, Renew, GHeal, and Prayer of Healing after the volley’s.  Of course with the healing I have now I’m so over geared that I can do that in my sleep :P

Though I’m always trying to improve myself I’m probably over done for everything except maybe Heroic MGT which I still haven’t done.  I want to do it but want to make sure I got with properly geared people so I am not hating life the whole time.

Oh and I forgot to mention I was DPSing most of the time.  They had a Priest, he was a new 70 so was not as geared healing wise as me but I certainly had more DPS gear, and talents than him.  I actually do pretty damn good in my healing gear now.  With the regen I have it makes the horrible mana effeciency of holy damage not so bad :)   I was throwing renew on the tank all the time too and getting my Scarab to go off and that was in turn giving me super haste for my smites :)   I didn’t realize it would effect damage spells, I guess haste is haste, the scarab just won’t trigger except off a heal spell :)   It doesn’t even need a cast time apparently.

Interesting Daily

After we were done Inian and I ran over to the island and did all the quests there.  I probably have only 1 or 2 more fully set of quests before I’m finally exalted with the Shattered Sun.  We got  the two that send you back to Outlands, the Shadowmoon and one in Hellfire.  The Hellfire one is kind of neat it has you running around in this area I had noticed but never gone into.  You kill these big guys and get a gland and then you get a little ravenger pet to dig up these roots for you.  The area has a ton of bug mobs, so it was even super easy hehe

Late Night Dance Session

After doing all my banking and checking the AH I was about to log and ran into Thalios in the bank, and we had a late night dance session before I left :)

I am still in the testing process but I’ve currently swapped out Violation for Recount which is a different damage meter.  It seems to be a combination of the display of DamageMeter/Violation with information on the level of Recap.  Telling top spells, and keeping track of a lot more.  It seems kind of neat, I noticed they are also in the middle of rewriting it under the new system.  It is patched to work under the new combat log though.  It is a pretty interesting mod that keeps realtime graphs of raid performance and stuff like that.

Badges? I Want Some Stinking Badges!

by on May.23, 2008, under Gameplay, Questing

I think it is time to go on a badge kick again.  I decided I want to set my goal of getting my Adorned Supernal Legwraps.  I already have the perfect gems to stick in it too.  This is probably my last large attainable healing upgrade.  I could go for the horribly ugly Gown of Spiritual Wonder but it wouldn’t be much of a healing upgrade, just a stamina and possibly regen upgrade.  It is sooo ugly I’ll have to continue to think about that.  I still want the old badge offhand but the pants will be a much larger upgrade so I think I’ll go for those first.

Heroic Underbog Run

On that note I made sure I did the Heroic Daily :)   There wasn’t a lot going on but managed to find this group that needed a healer.  It was a pretty good group of people.  We did end up talking about some stuff that led one of the mages to think I was too old to be playing WoW, he was 15 from what I gathered.

I’ve been playing video games for the better part of my life.  I was the generation that was basically born into them so I don’t think I will ever not be to be honest.  It is part of who I am.  I don’t care if I’m 50, while now someone might think that is odd for a 50 year old to be playing.  When I’m 50, all 50 year olds would have grown up in that generation.

We had an interesting scuffle before we started with a bunch of horde harrasing people at the enterance.  Luckly I put on my PvP gear and they never got the best of me.

I did a little bit of Dailies afterwards but not many, didn’t quite have the energy.

Meta Power!

by on May.22, 2008, under Farming, Gameplay, Questing

Well I installed my first Meta Gem this morning. I got on early before going to some training for work. I had asked around the guild to see if anyone could cut a Chaotic Skyfire Diamond. Then looking at it on wowhead I realized the pattern is an instance drop so very few people will have it. So anyways I ended up getting Inian to make the Skyfire Diamond and I thought well maybe I can trade for one.  I was kind of worried about handing the thing over to someone to cut that I didn’t know.  So what I ended up doing is buying one I saw on the AH for 175G for fesster.  Then I took the gem Inian made and put it up for sale for 160G.  Surprisingly I had sold it by the time I got home.  So essentially I paid 15g to have it cut which wasn’t bad :)   Laneer has never had a head item with a meta slot in it so Fesster and his nifty goggles was my first one!

Faction Grinding

Though I was tired from the training I did decide to get on and work on my Shattered Sun Offensive faction.  It is my last Outlands faction I can do, as I doubt I’ll be going into Hyjal or BT.  I do have some oldworld ones to finish after that though on my way to WOTLK.  I’d like to finish the Timbermaw and Argent Dawn (which is close).  Working slowly on the Alliance factions as well, if I get totally done with other stuff I might work harder to pop those ones out too.  Some of the other harder instance onces I’d probably have to wait till I”m 80 then maybe Inian and I can do them.  Like finishing out Brood of Nozdormu, Zandalar Tribe, and Hydraxian Waterlords.  I’m close in all of those, in fact in Brood I think I’m really really close.  Not to mention I have all the goblin factions I never finished even remotely close too.  I think those are stupidly long grinds because there isn’t a lot of ways to get faction for them.

I also plan to start my series on my UI and get the pages updates with the info. :)

Alpha Leak Fallout

by on May.21, 2008, under WoW

There continues to be lots of interesting buzz in the forums about the leak. Blizzard went around to all the big name sites that had any of the info and had them remove it. They also went to Youtube and forced down any of the videos.

Plenty of people on the forum seem convinced this is the “usual” fake patch notes kind of thing but given the information I’ve seen it seems pretty real to me. There was way too much information to fake. They had screenshots of the installer. Copies of the music (which is quite good). They had video flying around in the game. You can also tell it is alpha with things missing textures and the like.

I’d like to point out that even during Beta of BC which I was in only the end of things changed drastically, and rapidly. So in alpha you can assume it is even more so. So while I do believe everything I saw, and have posted/linked to was definitely in the game at some point. I seriously doubt much of it will go live “as is”. So if you see something that excites you in either a positive or negative way in any of the leaked alpha information please remember it almost certainly will not be that way with WOTLK goes live.

Consider this merely as an interesting preview into some of the ideas that Blizzard is playing around with and take it at that. It has generated so much excitement towards WOTLK I almost want to say Blizzard had staged this leak. That way they could generate buzz without the negative effects of when they have to alter something in the future :)

Priest Trees

by on May.20, 2008, under WoW

Well apparently they added a link, or something i didn’t notice before that has the 3 trees Discipline, Holy and Shadow.

Disc is definitely looking like the holy damage tree.  The 51 point talent sounds interesting, and at least according to this sites information all the talents relating to this spell are in disc.

Name: Penance
Description: Launches a volley of holy light at the target, causing $47666s1 Holy damage to an enemy, or $47750s1 healing to an ally every $47758t2 sec for $47758d.

Name: Rapture
Description: Causes your party members to gain mana equal to ${$m1/2}.1% of the healing done by your Greater Heal, Flash Heal and Penance spells.

Name: Grace
Description: Your Flash Heal, Greater Heal, and Penance spells bless the target with Grace, reducing damage done to the target by $47932s1%, and increasing healing done to the target by $47932s2%. This effect will stack up to 3 times.

Name: Divine Aegis
Description: Critical heals create a protective shield on the target, absorbing 30% of the amount healed. Lasts $47753d.

Name: Aspiration
Description: Reduces the cooldown of your Inner Focus, Power Infusion and Pain Suppression spells by -20%.

The additions to the tree make it even more interesting PvP tree, at the same time adding usable PvE Effectiveness.

While all the holy entries make complete sense as well.

Name: Guardian Spirit
Description: Calls upon a guardian spirit to heal and watch over the friendly target. The spirit heals the target for 624 every 2 sec, and also prevents the target from dying by sacrificing itself. Lasts $48151d.
Description2:

Name: Divine Providence
Description: Increases the amount healed by Circle of Healing, Binding Heal, Prayer of Healing and Prayer of Mending by 10%.

Name: Test of Faith
Description: Increases healing by 15% and spell critical effect chance by 10% on friendly targets at or below 50% health.

Name: Serendipity
Description: If your Greater Heal or Flash Heal spells heal the target for less than 50% of its intended effect, you have a $h% chance to be refunded the mana cost of the spell. This effect has a 10 second cooldown.

The only thing I didn’t see on this site was the mention of Beauty of Health which is suppose to give Cure Disease the ability to cure poison.  Either it wasn’t in the information this person harvested, or it isn’t a talent.  It instead might be a passive ability we get at a certain level.  The wording sure sounded like a talent but you never know.
