A Questing I Will Go
by Laneer on Nov.28, 2009, under Achievements, Questing, Raid
I got back to working on my loremaster goal today when my son went down for his nap. I went back to STV, my least favorite questing spot in all of WoW. I had nearly every quest available here until recently. I have so many quests in my log now that are sending me off to places around the world. I can see why they thought they should rebuild the old world even more now
Ever since I started using shadow again I have found it is a little more fun to play around doing these quests. I have finally finished all the bootybay quests that actually take in place in STV and I need to run around the world now.
I had missed an earlier IM from Inien letting me know he was in a raid that could use me. When I got on after I got my son to bed they had started but only barely. I continued to questing and eventually they needed a DPS. I volunteered to come for some practice. It was a Uluar 25 and there was the usual standing around associated with them
It is why I hate 25 mans so much. We have a hard enough time keeping 10 people paying attention some time, but 25 is really hard.
We did two bosses the XT-002 and Kologarn before we called it a night. I got to DPS up to Kologarn but then a healer left and they asked me to heal for that fight. I didn’t do to bad, obviously the other people were better geared than me, I in the top 10 then. Usually around 7th or 8th in DPS and Damage, pulling around 3200.
I think I learned a few things from that run. I know I need more actual DPS gear, and I’m not hitcapped yet which hurts me a lot too I think. I should be able to aquire some Decent DPS gear in 3.3 that will help. Before I logged out for the night I was trying to make some new Satrinabuff frames to help me. I’ve been trying various addons to try to keep track of what I have on the target which is really all I need. I think if I can get something that lets me more easily see and react I can improve my dps.
Great Achievement
by Laneer on Nov.27, 2009, under Achievements, Raid
Was my first raid as a member of the Texas Mercenaries tonight. We tore through ToC10 pretty quick. While most people already had this achievement I got the salt and pepper achievement. On the final boss I got me some new robe for my Shadow spec. The Vestments of the Sleepless dropped and no one needed so I got it for offset. I never seem to get any healing gear though
After we finished we worked on doing heroic mode for a bit. We wiped a lot but I think we are very close in being able to beat them. We have the DPS now I think we just need the practice. It would help if I could get my UI to show Levitate on the raid frames.
After that we ran over and did Onyxia 10 really fast. She is super easy when you are with Pro people. Man what a difference. I hadn’t done it non-pug yet. It made me realize how painful the pugs really are
After that we went over to try OS 3 drakes up. Apparently they have been trying it for a few weeks. They were using the strategy of killing Sarth as fast as possible while someone kites the drakes away. They had been very close and when we went their they asked me to be DPS. I didn’t realize it before I went that I was going to be DPS. This was the first time since I started playing Shadow again I had to matter. In our final and successful attempt I actually pulled 3200 DPS. Sure I was the lowest in the raid but I was proud of my contribution
I didn’t even have my new gear gemed so I wasn’t wearing it.
I had a great time this evening though and look forward to many more.
WoW Mosaic
by Laneer on Nov.27, 2009, under Blizzard, WoW
Just posted my entry for the wow mosaic over on the wow aniversary site.
This is Inien on the left, my son in the middle and me Laneer on the right! We got our Alliance banners and my collector edition box sets in the background
We’ll see if we make it in!
Again!?!?

Tonight I was excited because I knew all I needed to do was the Heroic Daily and I could buy my trinket. I go and look and low and behold the heroic and regular daily was Halls of Lightning! So I grab Inien and we try to put together a group. I went and did some Pilgrim dailies while waiting for a tank to show then we grabbed some DPS and off we went. I told them they needed to beat the 32 minutes run i did yesterday
We almost did, we did it in 33 minutes, technically we would have won though thinking about it later. We did both dailies so we stopped for extra mobs. We would have easily beat my 32 minutes otherwise.
I hope everyone is getting their suicidal Turkey ready for the big day tomorrow. I wish everyone the bestest Thanksgiving!
Now That Was Fast

I got on this evening and Randorf was talking about Friday’s Raid. They were talking about how they use forums posts to line everyone up. I asked how come they didn’t use the in game event system for that. They actually had never used it before so I was very pleased I got to introduce them to it and what you can do with it. Randorf was like, see we needed you!
So I got them trying it out for this upcoming raid. It is definetely useful for raids, I wonder if they are going to expand on it any in all the new guild tools they are giving in Cataclysm.
I ran around and did some Pilgrim dailies to get some more turkey shooters. Then I camped out Dalaran to get the last 3 rogues I needed. It was a pain in the butt too. I even flew out to the Tournament grounds to look for the last one I needed, an undead rogue. I remember when undead Rogues were super common, but now I hardly ever see them. I couldn’t believe I found an orc and troll rogue, multiples before I found an undead one. Anyways I got it eventually and now I have my suicidal Turkey, yay!
After that I went to see what the heroic daily was. I winced a little when I saw it was HoL. I don’t mind it so much anymore, but it is one of the longer instances and I was a bit tired already. I really felt like I wanted to do an instance though so I put myself in LFG and got a group rather quickly I was surprised. It ended up being a good group too. We blew through the instance in a half an hour, well 32 minutes to be exact. I am not 1 triumph badge away from my trinket
I will have use of it for Friday yay!
Big Change
by Laneer on Nov.23, 2009, under Achievements, Group, Questing
Well after this mornings Turkey slaughter I made myself a free agent. Like I said before a bit easier to leave when no one is around. Only the original Shadows will probably even miss me
Besides I haven’t really gone anywhere, just changed the title under my name. A bit later in the evening Redfive got on and invited me into the Texas Mercenaries. They are not a large guild, about as big as the Shadows was when I moved over to Doomhammer in fact. I’ve grouped with them enough to know they are a great bunch so I’m fine with my decision. I look forward to continuing Friday raid night!
A bit later I ended up in a group with Inien and the Old n Grumpy guild. The tank, though terribly slow at pulling was good, while the DPS a Mage and a Warlock were recent 80s and quite terrible. Well let me change that, they were terrible DPS, they didn’t do anything particularly bad
I was just glad I brought Inien who was doing about 40% of the damage or we would have never finished. I kept joking that the tank thought we were in Dragonball Z because he would stand and stare at the mobs a long time before engaging them. When we did the last boss I predicted both the other DPS would die, Inien, I and the tank would live and I called it perfectly.
Really looking forward to IceCrown and 3.3 has to offer after reading that recent dev chat they posted about it. It all looks very fun and will be great to get some new gear. I also noticed there were some neat changes to Shadow in 3.3. So I picked a great time to start training on DPS again
3.3 will let me get some updated DPS gear too.
Crazy? Yes, Yes I Am
by Laneer on Nov.23, 2009, under Achievements, Questing
I got up early this morning (3am) so that I could run around and kill turkeys. Yes I am crazy, but I wanted to get this done and it is so annoying to do at normal hours with so much competition
It actually still took me several tries because there are several areas that simple are empty of turkeys. What seemed like the best way was to start at the logging camp which is filled with them and then cross the road and work the area between the river and the road on the way back to stormwind.
After I finished that I did the dailies at Stormwind and Ironforge and picked up 4 more Turkey shooters. I can’t remember if Darnasus has a daily but I’ll go back and look later. I also took the opportunity to do a drama free gquit from Shadows. I talked to Tue yesterday and explained what I was moving Laneer over to Texas Mercenaries. He completely understood and there were no hard feelings. Also it is not like I’m leaving the server or anything I’ll still be around
Plus all my other chars are remaining in shadows.
Feasting Fun
by Laneer on Nov.22, 2009, under Group, Questing
Like many people today I took part in the latest WoW holiday, Pilgrim’s Bounty. It reminds me a lot of Thanksgiving with all the cooking, eating and unpleasant guests
I got most of the achivements done today. I need to do the dailies to get the the turkey shooter to abuse some rogues still. Plus I need to get on early enough to kill 40 turkeys in a row. I kept getting close, but not all the way
Inien and I headed out to Sethekk Halls to kill two Birds with one stone. We both still needed the heroic achievement, and for the Pilgrims quest. Well as you might notice we were half way into Crypts before we realized it wasn’t Setthekk halls
Uh we were just reminiscing, ya that’s it! It is the 5 year WoW anniversary after all
And hey this was one of the most neglected instances in BC!
We did eventually go to it though and get through Sethekk Halls. The silly bird went down with no problems! I only need one more instance now for my Outlands Dungeon achievement. I felt good on the achievement progress though and hope to have this one taken care of soon. After all I must have that turkey pet! Inien told me he heard it does something funny when it is near fire.
A Nostalgic Day
by Laneer on Nov.21, 2009, under Group, Questing, Raid
Was looking for an interesting raid to do but not much was happening this morning when I got on. So I did some dailies experimenting with Shadow again. I had been thinking about giving it another shot and decided to go for it. Eventually I got a tell asking if I would heal a OS10 1 drake up. I hadn’t been in OS for a while so I figured what the heck.
That turned out to be a rather large waste of time though. When we finally got 10 people together, they were mostly terrible. 3 of the DPS did 80% of the damage, and we had a DK that was doing 600dps. I would think using auto attack would get more than 600dps! It was clear we could not do 1 drake up. Makes matter worse the raid leader was trying to leave the hardest one up! Finally we convinced them to leave the easiest one up, but what we really wanted was to not even try. We tried, and failed rather quickly. It turned out half the raid had never even done OS10 before on those characters at least
Later in the evening I teamed up with my buddies from the Texas Mercenaries to run some old BC heroics for achievements. It was a very enjoyable time, and quite nostalgic. Perfect to be doing on the 5th anniversary of WoW. During the conversations they mentioned they were having issues with their new priest being flaky and that if I was available they wanted me to raid with them again. I got to thinking at that point that I should probably just move Laneer into Texas Mercenaries. I never raid with the Shadows, they do so when I can’t play unfortunately. I haven’t done it yet but I wanted to make sure the shadows GL knew why I moved Laneer and didn’t abruptly do it without explanation.
Looking forward to doing the Pilgrim event and getting my Turkey pet hopefully!
