Worried for Nothing
by Laneer on Jan.23, 2009, under Editorial, Group
So I sort of put my foot in my mouth this evening, well only sorta. I guess you can blame so many bad PUG experiences, but I also blame the tank for not informing me
Basically this is what happened. I was in the LFG for Heroic HoL. I started putting my SP in addition to “Healer” in my comment, seems to get me better groups some how
Anyways a warrior sends me a tell and I join him. He invites a mage which his HP and Mana looked low to me so while he was inviting more people I looked at his armory. I noticed he had only as much SP as my 73 Mage, only he was level 80. I sent the tank a message and said to get rid of him and pick up someone else that he is going to be horrible DPS. He tells me he is a guildie, to me that doesn’t matter much if you can’t get through the instance because you don’t have enough DPS guildie or not your in trouble.
So he tells me we will be fine. I never paid attention though that the rest of the people he invited were all in his guild, and he didn’t tell me
I was like ok then I hope we don’t go wiping everywhere because of low DPS. So why we were flying over I checked the other two guys and saw they both appeared to be very well geared, a Ret Pally, and a DK
I still never noticed they were in his guild. We started and everything went awesomely, the tank was great, and the DPS from the Ret pally and DK were awesome. I noticed just past the first boss they were all in the same guild and appologized for being a jerk but he should of told me he knew what we were ending up with
The run went fantastic, we wiped once on the last boss because of me, I told them I could heal through Lokens AOE which is trouble but I wasn’t fast as I was the last time I did it apparently. Basically I can spam Holy Nova and toss out PoM in between and that takes care of it
Everyone has to stay close to me of course, which the Mage of course didn’t. He died but he was rather worthless. We could have four manned the thing the mage only did 10% of the damage.
It was certainly the fastest (really fast) HoL I’ve ever done, and by far the most successful. No pants though of course the stupid chainmail belt again. Of course I some how ended up with no screenshots, I haven’t fully got used taking them all the time like I used to.
After I did that run and turned in I went out to Icecrown to make some ebonweave. I happen to look up in wowhead comments where to go to make it. Well once I got there and I couldn’t make it I read they changed where you do it at lol. The new place is of course MUCH easier to get to but not nearly as interesting
I haven’t got much in to the other zones yet so it was a neat exploration of Icecrown.
After I did that I was going to head off to bed being that I have not slept well ALL week. I don’t remember what did it but when i was about to put the machine to sleep I thought about TheGuild. The first time I ever heard of TheGuild was when Blizzard announced they were going to be at Blizzcon. I went to their website and found it was a collection of a sort of mini-series based on playing an MMO. It isn’t really specific to what game they are playing and could apply to almost any MMO, but sounds mostly like WoW terminology.
The first visit I watched every episode in the first season. It was hilarious I was LOL the whole time. I remembered Blizzcon and that they were talking about season 2. So last night I ended up finding out they have episodes 1-8 done of season 2 and ended up watching all of them. I highly suggest you give them a go they are sooooo funny. Then I went to bed of course late instead of early but amused
Catching Up

I happened to be catching up on my gucomics and saw this one and thought it was hilarious. As I’ve mentioned before my dislike of the last boss of HoL it is all the more touching
Be sure to check it out! If you don’t read gucomics you should, Woody does some great stuff, and the WoW stuff is usually very fitting
Good Things Happen on Bad Days

I got on this evening after having a VERY rough day at work. Things are not going so well economically and a lot of cuts and bad stuff happening so everyone is pretty down. Needless to say I needed a good WoW session badly (my stress reliever). Amazingly the WoW gods saw fit to smile on me this evening blessing me with many great heroic PUG runs.
I started off doing my Wyrm Rest daily while looking for a Heroic CoS. I had both the regular and heroic dailies so I thought it would be a good one to do. I got invited by a tank who then found all the DPS. It was an entirely melee group with a DPS Warrior, DeathKnight, Feral Druid, and the Protection Warrior. It was even more amazing that the DPS warrior was good! I don’t think I have ever seen this before, he was actually beating the Deathknight or staying about even!
We were trying to do a speed run for the drake. If you get to the guy fast enough, I think it’s 20 minutes you can get the Bronze Drake you see me flying on earlier in the post. I got the drake on my second attempt, you really have to be fast. We were good but not good enough. We didn’t make it to the spawns fast enough I think. It was a good group though and I always enjoy complete melee groups.
After that I thought I’d try to get over my fear of bad PUGs and do a Heroic HoL. I really want the epic pants off the last guy and as I was telling Inien they aren’t going to just fall out of the sky. Not only did I actually find a good PUG, but it was a great PUG. We had a truly exceptional Pally tank, and Boomkin. The Deathknight was sub-par but it didn’t matter. The pally started off with the first boss “anyone need the achievement” and ran in when the guy was buffed. We owned the guy easy and I got the achievement, the first of many for the night. Then when we got to the last guy they asked if we wanted to run or stand, I didn’t think I could heal it so we ran, it didn’t go according to plan and we got hit a lot by his thing but Holy Nova saved the day. I do believe I could just have everyone stand there and I could use it to keep everyone alive.
After that the awesome Boomkin asked if I wanted to do Heroic Nexus. The same tank was coming so I figured why not. We needed DPS so I got Inien to even come. It was a really great group and a lot of fun. Again we went for all the achievements, but we were not successful on the split personality one. Guess we didn’t kill the mirror images fast enough, almost inconceivable. We did manage Chaos Theory but that one was so crazy hard, and also got Intense Cold.
After we finished that Inien realized he only needed 5 more badges for the Mage set Robe. So we started up a group for Heroic Violet Hold which was the daily for that day. There was a tank waiting for us practically and we started pretty quick. We got all the easy bosses (again thank you WoW gods) and finished what’s her face easy. She even dropped her Epic mace which I gladly took. I call it my Epic Mace of not Screw Mace.
So tired of every mace I find looking the same!
Inien looked pretty spiffy in his robe. I do believe that is what I’m going for next, of course mine is the Priest Robe
Lastly I finished out the night with some of the exciting mini game of inventory management. I thought I’d throw out a shot of what my bank/bags look like these days
All in all I got 16 badges for the evening, a bunch of shards, a new Mace, over 8k rep had fun with no frustration and in only a few hours. Great end to a really really crappy day.
