Achievement Hunting

by on May.19, 2009, under Achievements, Group

I got on this evening with nothing particular planned.  After patching (Another patch with Priest nerfs!) I updated my mods and had to reconfigure one.  The few Priest changes had already been implemented in a hotfix because it was sooo important to nerf us immediately.  So these changes really just fixed tool tips, except the Renewed Hope change I think.

  • Divine Hymn: Healing and healing scaling reduced by 30%. Buff on affected players changed from 15% to 10%.
  • Renewed Hope: Effect can no longer be dispelled.
  • Soul Warding: Mana cost reduction is now 15% down from 30%.

After doing a few dailies I ran into Inien out in the field completing the fishing daily too.  I thought it would be fun to go do an old instance for achievements so we headed back to outland.  We did the fishing daily there too then went to Mana tombs.  Neither one of us had the achievement and there is an enchant from there I never got.

Mana Tombs

Even though the achievement only required the last boss we did all the bosses though it is doubtful we could have got by them undetected anyways.  We didn’t do too bad on everything other than a few times biting off more than we could chew :)

Mana Tombs

The boss was super easy since he is mostly a caster even though we skipped mobs in his room and they all decided to help.  Luckily they were all casters so it didn’t matter.  I engaged in some super holy nova action! :)   There was still some time left in the evening so we decided to go give crypts a try, it is a super small instance anyways and we both needed that run.   Plus I believed there was an enchant from there I didn’t have either.

Crypts

I killed us quite badly on another over zealous pull, but it was in all good fun.  We could AOE the whole place fairly easily if I didn’t pull too many of course :)   We got towards the end and found the guys who had my enchant which is great.  After we beat the last guy we posed with the Naru :)

It was a fun evening though, I got a couple of achievements, which did push me over 5000 achievement points, and a few enchants I didn’t have yay.

Finally News!

by on Jul.17, 2008, under Farming, Gameplay, WoW

Of course the first thing I saw tonight when I logged onto WoW was the new WOTLK info…Achievements!  It is funny because it was only recently I was posting on the boards about wanting something similar to this and they had already invented it.  They talk about some of the achievements being retroactive, but not exactly what.  I’m really hoping we can get numbers like how many total quests we completed and things like that.  I see in a screenshot where it says 50 quests, but I don’t know if those sort of things start at WOTLK, or after.

Since you cannot repeat a quest I’m assuming that they have to keep track of every quest you ever completed and should therefore know how many.  Other things I liked to see like monster kills and such they probably don’t keep track of.  It will be a neat thing for achiever types like Inian and I.  This is finally something that can distinguish myself from some other Dwarf Priest, even if it is completely meaningless gameplay wise.  Not quite my AA system, but certainly an improvement to gameplay!

After reading all that I got in and ran over and grabbed the recipie to make Inian his three 28 slot herb bags.  Luckily I was able to make just enough Primal Mooncloth today to make them :)   He had already sent me the  Fel Lotus needed.

I ran out to Felwood to do a little more work on my timbermaw faction and I got interrupted.  I was doing pretty well too, no one around except some 50 something dreanei shaman who promptly left when I started killing 15 mobs at a time lol  Thalios wanted to do Manatombs on his druid and pestered me to go.

MT Last Boss

I worked really hard durning the instance to get a mace skill up but no go.  I’m 348 now and those last points are hard for someone who isn’t whacking things all the time.  Mostly we were into pure chaos since Inian and I were there, and we have duoed this zone before we were not worried about anything hehe  I really wanted to go for a chance at the boot enchant that drops here (completest)  but of course it didn’t drop.   Then I remembered during the run I had forgot to eat dinner so I logged early to do that before bed.

So glad to finally see WOTLK info starting to come out, and I’m glad it isn’t more of the same, there are actually new things in store!

Adventurous Evening

by on May.30, 2008, under Gameplay, Questing

I got on and Inian was already doing some stuff.  I haven’t been on for the past few days too busy with other things.  I was ready for some excitement.  Inian was over in Shadowmoon getting Ata’mal Armaments so I decided to join him, I had that quest and I needed to make some Shadow cloth.  So after we were done getting the armaments I thought hey lets go look in the Black Temple.

Us in the Black Temple

So we took a peep inside and snapped a few screenshots.  After that I was like lets go look at the other raid instances just for the hell of it.   It is the kind of thing Inian and I would do :)  So we had other dailies we did along the way and Inian used his new Theremore port and off we went to the caverns of time!

Creating Primal Mooncloth in the Caverns of Time

As we were heading towards Mt Hyjals entrance I saw a moonwell.  I still needed to make my Primal mooncloth and figured I’d check to see if it was a real one, sure enough it was!

She\'s HUGE!

We continued into the instance and looked around the little city your in, all the doors to the buildings are boarded up and we have Ms Proudmore here completely out of scale!  She is HUGE!  She apparently stats the event that is this raid instance.  Never really read anything about this instance since I figured I’d never be in it.

More Mt. Hyjal Exploration

You can mount in here so we ran around looking at things, and found this nice undead base.  Figured this is where all the trouble is.  Kind of neat looking with little packs of ghouls running around everywhere.

Event triggered time to run!

Just before we left, we triggered the even and Inian opened us up a portal.  When the ghoul packs came a running, we ported leaving Ms Giant Proudmore to her doom!

Serpent Shrines HUGE elevator

Next we went into Zangamarsh, did the fishing quest for shrimp, then headed to Serpent shrine!  This was the giant elevator in the beginning you encounter that takes you WAY down.

Down in the depts of Serpent Shrine

We went down to the bottom and looked around, it was quite the interesting looking dungeon.

Tempest Keep

Lastly we did our dailies in Netherstorm then visited Tempest Keep.  The guild had actually been doing this with another guild at some point.  That recently fell apart however.  I don’t know if they are looking for another partner.

Mana Tombs Duo\'d

After that I had been talking about trying to see if we could farm one of the instance enchants.  The 12stam boot enchant.  It apparently drops off Priests in Manatombs.  I was mentioning I read a Rogue or mage and solo farm for it so Inian and I figured we could do pretty good.  It was actually pretty easy.  We easily moved as fast or faster than a full group of appropriately leveled players.  Initially we paste the first boss and just went into the main room filled with Priests and did that.

Downing the second boss

Then Inian sees some Anctient Lichen behind the big rock boss and gets Brave :P  So we see if we can take him.  After we do so surprisingly well even though I considered him a more melee boss we started talking about trying to complete that escort quest in here that he never did.

Downing the first Boss

We finished clearing to the quest then went back to kill the first boss.  We pull him and die because we hadn’t cleared that room all the way and apparently he agros everything.  This is the only time we died tonight.  So we come back and clear the room then pull him again.  We made short work of him and went back for the escort.

Finally finishing Inians old quest

The final act of the night was completing this quest for Inian.  In I think the first or spawn of mobs we had a very unfortunate double mana burn of of each of us by some dark casters leaving me and him in pain and I lost Inian but got a scarab proc at just the right time.  I saved myself and kept me and the NPC alive while he finished off the mobs, only 2 were left Inian killed the rest.  Then I rezed Inian real quick and on we followed.  In the next set of mobs I feared to try and keep them distracted and we kept everyone alive.  We continued down the escort all the way to his little confrontation with that goofball at the end and then we toasted that guy so fast it wasn’t even funny completing the quest with a triumphant “Jobs done!”.

This was a fun act for me, I always enjoy seeing what Inian and I can do together.  Though nether one of us can really take hits we have a good set of abilities that allow us to overcome overwhelming odds :)  Not to mention both of us are very experienced at our classes :)  It was a very adventurous night indeed!

BC Mana Tomb Gone Wrong

by on Nov.19, 2006, under Beta

I guess the last BC patch messed up Mana Tombs. It is unfortunate because it was perfectly fine so you got to wonder how you break something that had no problems with a patch :) As you might can tell by this image, there were quite a few killer cubes in the zone. Cubes are very annoying to fight because it is hard to tell they are attacking you or that you are hitting them. Not to mention we couldn’t crowd control them! Whenever the Mage sheeped a cube, the cube just became a killer sheep. It was quite amusing. Made for an interesting run anyways. May no one ever have to fight a cube come BC’s go live date though!

BC Mana Tomb Part Dos!

by on Nov.12, 2006, under Beta

Decided to do another Mana Tomb run, cause after all its the best exp I can get at this point especially well rested like I am. On my way over I stumbled upon this nasty looking spider I hadn’t seen before.

This run went awesome, we were using a feral druid as a tank and he did a great job. As a reward I’m sure the first boss dropped this very neat idol. Mooku will want one of those.

We also got tons of green drops this run, WAY more than we did last time. I thought this Mace was a pretty amazing green drop :)

We were still unable to kill the 3rd boss however. He is quite mean, and we just didn’t have enough DPS to kill the boss and keep the adds of his under control. I did manage to get Friendly with the consortium which is impressive I think. Thats two runs of the instance and I have never done anything for this faction before.

BC Mana Tomb

by on Nov.11, 2006, under Beta

So I switched over to beta blogger today before I started this post so hopefully this turns out well. It looks like they added some good features so I’m hopeful it works well :)

Anyways I had time to get in some good Beta play today. With my 98% rest exp I began looking for a group. Before I found one with LFG I got a random tell for a Mana Tomb group. I hadn’t been yet so I went.

This place is very interesting full of all those nether energy guys. Here I am standing on what I would only describe as energon cubes as we pull the first boss who is surprisingly close to the entrance. We defeated him pretty easily and he rewarded me with a fabulous wand, the Voidfire Wand!

The zone is very interesting with lots of their wierd Stargate looking portals around and nether energy flowing to and fro.

This was the second Boss and he was even easier than the other guy. They just had me sit at max range and heal since he does a lot of AOE damage. He did have a single target poison he kept hitting me with that the paladins were too slow to cleanse. He dropped a delicious healing cloak for me called the Cloak of Revival. Good replacement for the green healing cloak I was wearing from one of the first quests in BC.

Here is the obligatory Murky dance off in Mana Tombs shot :)

This was the last boss fight which we did not win, nor get a second chance at. He has these energy balls around him that if you don’t kill become annoying apprentice’s that are casters of course and start blasting you with 1200 damage fire balls. Well someone didn’t care of them and they started owning us. Then because we took so long the zone was repoping and we didn’t get to try again.

I was at the bottom end for the level of this zone so it was actually challenging, much more so then The Underbog. We had 2 Paladins and Rogue besides me and the Warrior so no crowd. This meant I was getting hit a lot, and this is really the first time I was using Pain Suppression ALL the time. Considering these mobs were all 64-67 they hit like a truck. Plus their were plenty of casters who were mean. Especially the ones that mana burn you for HALF your mana… Their were also these little nether flying eel things that used something like arcane explosion did a lot of AOE damage to the group. I also found myself using Power Infusion a lot during some of the more hard pulls for burst healing. Especially when we were dealing with the casters.

It was a lot harder because we had so called DPS Paladins who didn’t want to heal, Bless anyone or cleanse. So I was doing all the healing with only occasional help, little to no help with dispelling and me having to constantly harass them for Salvation and Wisdom. They died all the time too which you don’t normally see Paladins do. There were some pulls where I Just couldn’t cast enough to heal everyone and since neither one of them would we lost people. Well I said screw it and gave the tank priority and they wouldn’t even heal them damn selves! At the end one of them was complaining about having 30% durability :b The rouge and warrior were good though :)

It was fun though and I’m liking my Disc bulid more and more now. Oh and I was getting rested 1200-1300 exp a kill and everyone else was 65 or 66. I’m like 50% to 65 now :)
