Sons of Hodir Quest Chain

I did a lot of random things today but I spent quite a bit of time making my way back over to Storm Peaks to work on the quest chain that leads to the Sons of Hodir faction dailies.  I need to get started on that so I have access to the shoulder enchants.  Actually I should have started a long time ago :P   The quests are really fun even if you are a big blue lady most of the time :)

My poor bear

On the rug

The big blue lady looked pretty silly on my mounts too.  Mostly because she is pretty stiff but also because my mounts are scaled to Dwarf size and she is HUGE.  She looks like she would break my poor bears back!

Obsidian Sanctum

I managed to give Obsidian Sanctum a try today.  I thought it was quite fun and now I wonder why  I avoided it.  I actually did the 25 man one first.  We had a pretty pro leader and some good DPS so it was pretty easy.

Obsidian Sanctum

The actual dragon fight was really fun.  I had so much fun I went into LFG for the 10 man version afterwards.  The same RL did a 10 man and I joined that one as well.  The 10 man version seemed a bit easier but that is understandable I guess.  I even one the set gloves from him.

Big Spider

Later that evening I got in a mostly guild run with some folks for 10 man Naxx.  We went through the spider wing with relative ease.  The people were amusing and kept me entertained until Inien got on, then I mostly ignored them.

4 Horseman

I was hoping to do a full run, but alas they gave up after wiping to the 4 horseman too many times.  I really wanted to see them dead.  I really wanted to see the whole thing downed actually which is why I was mad when they called it.

Mmmm AOE

After that I went back to my Sons of Hodir questing.  Through Inien I found out I was in a phased area where the fire elementals were.  I (for some reason) wanted to try making a Frost resistance set so I could hopefully see the end of Naxx down and decided to farm fire there while I had it all to myself.  So I managed to get all my needed fire and a ton of relics too.

I am not hated with the Sons of Hodir (or Sons of Homer as Inien likes to call them) I just have to figure out what I do next to bring that up :)

A Visit to Naxx

by on Jan.19, 2009, under Raid

Just as I got on this evening and was about to jump in LFG for the  Heroic daily I got a tell from Cnight.  He was asked to see if I would like to join him to finish off some bosses in Naxx as it resets tomorrow.  I thought that could be interesting, my son went to bed easy tonight so I went ahead and joined him.  He is an exceptional tank I met during leveling and have done a bunch of instances with.

The first boss we attempted I didn’t take screenshots during, but it was Grobbulus which I had done the last time I tried Naxx.  Though I did Naxx in the old 40 man days I never did all the bosses, we started in on Naxx late as we tried to finish AQ40.   In my one other visit so far to Naxx we managed to defeat Grobbulus but not this time.  The DPS just wasn’t good enough :(

Next!

The next guy we went to try was Noth the Plaguebringer.  Cnight explained the fight and he was practically tank and spank.  Mostly he just teleports around and summons adds.  The adds were easily managed it seemed.

Go go go

We managed to do this one pretty easy even if it did take us at least 12 minutes to kill him.  He dropped a rather spiffy ring I rolled on but lost as nearly every cloth player rolled on it :P   I think part of our DPS problems were the fact we had 3 healers which as I understand isn’t necessary for the 10 man. We managed to take this guy down first try though so after the wipes on Grobbulus that felt good.

Dance!

So following that guy we went to Heigan the Unclean.  Cnight described this guy as being relatively easy, and it certainly did seem like that at first but you have to do what is called the dance.  You have to run around back and forth in the room to avoid this acid that shoots up.  Needless to say it didn’t go well :P   In fact one of our attempts left poor Cnight standing all alone.  He could do it perfectly and was awesome.   I was complaining to Inien I needed my speed enchant on my feet, my legs are too short!

Nobody Move

Well just after it seemed all host was lost someone in the group piped up and said there was a spot you could stand the acid didn’t hit you.  Apparently this is how most people do it, and how one of the guy’s guild does it in 25 man.  So we all piled into this corner while Cnight tanked him on the platform in phase 1 and ran over to the corner in phase 2, we managed to kill him straight away.

Now I sort of feel guilty for this because you get the achievement for the “dance” if no one dies, but I wasn’t going to rain on anyone’s parade.  He did drop some nifty boots that I rolled on and won, the Saltarello Shoes.  For some reason no one else rolled on them, maybe they are not that great but the stats were so much higher than my shoes, and though I’d loose the crit off my shoes I took them anyways.  Ironically though one of the other healers was Holy, and these shoes were definitely better than his I looked. Being Holy these were really even better for him.  He was a very odd fellow though.  He was Holy, yet he kept casting PW:S a lot I noticed, most of his healing came from flash heal again, odd for a Holy Priest.  His gear was all over the place too, he had some crit pieces, very little spirit that I could see.

You no heal!

Lastly we went and attempted Loatheb who is very very difficult.  You need to kill these spores that come out to get this buff that increases your damage.  You HAVE to do this because he has stupid HP.  On top of this you can only heal for 3 seconds every 15 seconds.  This certainly was a hugely annoying thing.

Bam!

We tried till it was bed time for me but couldn’t get him down.  I was concentrating on the tank, and hoping the Restro Druid could keep up the raid.  Thankfully with my spell haste and Penance I could fill the tank back up in those 3 seconds, and occasionally someone else / myself.  We kept loosing too many people though and we learned at the end we were not really doing the DPS part optimally.

It was a fun night though I really enjoyed it even with the wiping for some reason.  A lot of time Raiding can really wear on me in my old age.  Mostly it is the standing around and such that gets me.  Seeing I was able to pickup the boots I guess it was worth it, though I would have rather to get more crit! hehe  I have enough haste now actually, I’m really pleased with my cast times now, I just need more crit but apparently getting access to more is going to suck.  Now if I can get those pants off  Loken that will help recover from my boots :P
