The Winds Of Change

by on Nov.22, 2010, under Editorial, Group, WoW

Well tomorrow brings the Shattering upon us!  I totally thought they would do it on the anniversary but I guess they went with the normal patch day :)   This is such a huge change that will change the game forever.  We are not strangers to change of course with the 4.x updates dramatically changing our classes, items and game play aspects of the game.  Now come the major physical changes to the world as Deathwing reeks his havoc upon the world.

Dalaran Portals

Shat Portals

I think about the only thing I’m really going to miss and maybe a bit peeved about is the portals are going away :P   It is a small thing but I’ve got used to a world in which I was bound by no mage to have  speedy travel.  As a man with limited play time these days I am totally going to miss these portals.  They have served me well for sure.  I removed my bind from Shattrath before logging and stuck myself in IF for now.  I still have my ring that will return me to Dalaran, not that it will be terribly useful now :P

Loch Modan

Loch Modan

Loch Modan

Loch Modan damn

I took a visit to Loch Modan for some reflection on my life in WoW.  I’ve been playing this game for 6 years now, the longest I’ve played anything now surpassing EQ.  Especially since I never really stopped playing WoW like I would do with EQ.   Some of my earliest memories of WoW center around Loch Modan.  I remember the first time I walked through the mountains as I transitioned from Dun Morogh’s snowy mountains to the lush green areas in Loch Modan.  I remember the first time I walked into Thelsamar.  I love the Dwarves, and I love this zone.  I would have to say it is my favorite zone in all of WoW.

Wetlands

Grim Batol

I went over the Grim Batol in the wetlands to grab a shot before the changes.  I know this becomes one of the first raid areas so I just figured I’d take one last peep.  I remember Inien and I fought our way over here just to see it one time knowing that there was nothing actually here :)

One last ZG Run

Inien popped on and we ended up taking one last visit to ZG to see if we couldn’t snag the Tiger/Raptor mounts.  We were not successful as always of course but we gave it a shot :)   We also ran Sethekk Halls for the birdie mount for me, and ran over to MGT to see if we couldn’t get the chicken mount :)

Bye Auberdine

Bye Auberdine

Bye Forest

Inien and I decided to drop by Auberdine to say good bye as this zone gets totally trashed I know.  I’ve done all the quests here a few times, I found it a very painful area and it probably needed to be smashed :)   We’ll see how it turns out now after things tomorrow :)

The Last Supper

I settled in over at the inn in IF with Inien for our last supper :P   I log now and await for what tomorrow will bring.  WoW will be for ever changed, which means a lot to someone who has played WoW as long as I have.  I will miss my game but look forward to a bright future. While the Shattering, and Cataclysm in general will be quite the negative impact on the world perhaps it is just the shake up we all need?  I hope you all survive the coming of Deathwing, may we all survive the shattering and come out stronger in the end!

Let me close out with a few more photos I took of Loch Modan after dark :)

Feasting Fun

Feasting Fun

Like many people today I took part in the latest WoW holiday, Pilgrim’s Bounty.  It reminds me a lot of Thanksgiving with all the cooking, eating and unpleasant guests :)   I got most of the achivements done today.  I need to do the dailies to get the the turkey shooter to abuse some rogues still.  Plus I need to get on early enough to kill 40 turkeys in a row.  I kept getting close, but not all the way :(

Oops!

Inien and I headed out to Sethekk Halls to kill two Birds with one stone.  We both still needed the heroic achievement, and for the Pilgrims quest.  Well as you might notice we were half way into Crypts before we realized it wasn’t Setthekk halls :P   Uh we were just reminiscing, ya that’s it!  It is the 5 year WoW anniversary after all :)   And hey this was one of the most neglected instances in BC!

Two Birds, One Stone

We did eventually go to it though and get through Sethekk Halls.  The silly bird went down with no problems!  I only need one more instance now for my Outlands Dungeon achievement.  I felt good on the achievement progress though and hope to have this one taken care of soon.  After all I must have that turkey pet!  Inien told me he heard it does something funny when it is near fire.

Halfway There

by on May.19, 2008, under Gameplay, Questing

I took today off being that it is my birthday.  I debated if I wanted to use the time today to farm for more badges or to work Fesster towards 70.  I decided I felt more like burning things and played Fesster.

375 Mining!

I was questing in Zangamarsh while in LFG for Slavepens and Underbog.  Some guys asked if I wanted to do BF and I debated, and finally decided yes.  On my way over to BF I ran into a Fel Iron node that pushed me up to 375 mining yay!

3 Man Burning Furnace

It ended up being just me, a Paladin and a level 70 Enhancement Shaman.  Both were in the same guild and the Shaman was confident he could take care of everything.  It turns out he was quite correct!

Hardest part of a 3 man Burning Furnace

This was the only part we were unsure about.  The endurance test before the second boss.  We actually did pretty damn good.  I thought we were all lost when I miss clicked and had one of the button pages bound incorrectly and it messed up my buttons and I had to rebind some stuff to fix it.  Finally got that working and fear bombed as much as possible while using my Succubus, Frost grendes and Fel Iron bombs, as well as Shadow Fury to hold off the mobs while the Shaman did most of the damage.  All I had time to really do is be a big distraction while the Paladin kept us alive.  I died just before the boss came out but the Shaman killed the boss is like 10 seconds so it was ok :)

Underbog Adventures

Little bit later, and after some more questing I ended up in an Underbog group.  It was fun and I was beating the pants off the 66 hunter and the 70 rogue for the most of the zone.  See we had a paly tank so I was able to basically AOE every pull.  Eventually the rogue was so mad a level 64 was being him in DPS he started dragging mobs away from the paladin to kill them :-P   In the end I got a robe that dropped off the last boss I was able to gem nicely.  Now I just need to get my meta gem and I’ll be sitting pretty!   I’m just so happy I am finally out of a tunic!  This left me really really close to 65, in which I did a few more quests and finally ended up with 65.

Setthek Halls finished with Killing blow!

After getting 65, I went back and finished the last of my quests in Zangamarsh.  Thalios and some of the guys in the guilid wanted to take me on a run of something for my birthday so we went to Sethekk Halls.  It was a good run I got tad bit over 30% through 65 from it.  And for once managed to complete that quest on someone other than Laneer!   Both Mooku and Laneer the mage both managed to not get the first item off a boss and never finished one of the damn quests hehe

So I’m well into 65 now, and have finished Zangamarsh, not a bad day if I do say so myself!  So the halfway, well halfway through 60-70 :)

First And Last Heroic Sethekk Halls

by on Feb.01, 2008, under Farming, Gameplay, Questing

So as far as instances go I don’t need to do too many on Laneer before I am waiting on the new 5 man :P   I was out farming Netherweb silk to make my  second to last 20 slot bag for the bank when I got a hit on one of the two things I still want to do.  I was looking for a regular or Heroic shattered halls or a Heroic Sethekk Halls because I had the daily there and the Kara quest.

I ended up getting a Heroic Sethekk Halls, and it will be the last time I do that at least on Laneer.  Unfortunately I have to do it one more time on Mooku for epic flight form :P

It started off pretty well, I was like wow this seems relatively tame.

Mass Dispel

I even found a use for Mass dispel with so much of our DPS melee I felt it necessary to get rid of this thunder clap asap. :)

Wipe In Progress!

Unfortunately there were many accidents.  Not so much like this bad pull here, but many pulls on the way didn’t go as planed.

Return Trips

So this was a VERY common view for me during the evening.

Victory Finally!

In the end I got both quests done, well part of the Kara quest done  I still need a shattered halls for that one.  The thing that irked me at the end was the silly mage Abigaile rolled need on the Bands of the Benevolent!  Not that I can say I wanted them over mine, but it was a healing bracer and we should have all been able to roll on the shard.  He didn’t even ask if I wanted it simple rolled need immediately. When I told Inian this story he said it had to have been an accident or he misread.  Nope, I asked why did you roll need on a healing bracer.  He linked me his bracer Shattrath Wraps and I simply responded yes those are damage bracers this is a healing one. He insisted that it was better than his and so I was just like whatever.  I sharded the rest of the stuff and I ignored his roll when I passed everything out.

How do I always find these people!  Even as I look now he is not wearing them even according to his armory.
