Troll Slaying

ZG Rep Runs

Inien and I ended up spending the evening slaying trolls in ZG for rep.  I figured I had only one more  run in me to exalted and I was right!  Here you can see us messing around with being really tiny after slaying the spider boss :)

Got'em!

We did the entire instance, killed everything but Hakkar pretty quickly.  We only had trouble with the stupid tiger guy again.  It is killing those three at the same time was such an issue.  We skipped them but then came back to him because Inien had a quest for his head.  Half way through our attempt, I realized wait a minute, they are using mana, and I can remove mana, why didn’t I think of this before.  So I mana burned the two casters mana completely then Inien had no issues bring them down close to death, then finishing them.  After he becomes the tiger it is easy :P   I will remember that for next time :)

After that we went over to MC.  I hadn’t gone back to see if I got rep from the mobs now that they fixed the rep stuff.  I was shocked to find out that still only the bosses give rep!  That would make getting my Hydraxian waterlords rep up very very painful :(   Why does Blizzard hate me personally.

ZA

We ended up finishing the night farming for the mojo pet in ZA.  Inien hadn’t done much in there either so he got to see more of it.  This was a hard level 70 dungeon, and they definitely beat up on us.  We were still able to get in three mojo attempts each before we called it a night.

PUG ZA

by Laneer on Jun.07, 2008, under Gameplay

I get on, about in time for guild Kara, but it isn’t happening.  Apparently Thalios wasn’t around and if he isn’t there to lead no one goes.  I really wanted to try for some badges so I kept the word out looking for Heroics, Kara or even ZA.  I finally see a request sorta asking for Healing for ZA and follow up with the guy.  His group eventually decides they want a Shadow Priest but they can’t find one and eventually shuffle some people around and invite me instead.

They seemed like a good bunch of people, I think only a couple were from the same guild it was almost entirely a pickup group.  We got everyone there relatively quickly and started right up which is also rare for a PUG Raid :P   We started off to the eagle boss, ran to him and did he before the timer no problem.

Bear Boss

Then we ran to the Bear boss, and we were going to smash him before the timer until 3 guys who all live together DC’d.  One of them was the tank and the other 2 were major DPS.  Well it kind of fell apart after that and we lost it before they got back.  Someone reset the encounter and we started again without a complete wipe.  Finished him no problem but the timer had already passed.

One Extra Box

I guess we did get something for defeating the Eagle boss before the timer though because everyone ran back to his area.  I’ve never seen the extra item thing before.  All the times I’ve gone with guild we go for the Bear boss first and had not defeated him before the timer.

Dragonhawk Boss

We did the Dragonhawk boss after that and we defeated him easily even though I died towards the end do to some unluck circumstances.  This was the first time I had seen this boss I think. After this we did Lynx boss who was totally freaking easy.  All they did was concentrate on the totems and he went down like no bodies business.  They were also using tranc shot at some point, I don’t remember that from guild runs.

Hexlord Down

We defeated the Hexlord again first try without any problems.  He was pretty interesting fight kind of reminded me of that one in MT.  He has a crew you have to deal with as well.  I had a job during it to Shackle one of the mobs which I managed to do just fine.  All his adds went down super fast, then we were left with him which seemed to be pretty easy to deal with.

Zul\'Jin almost down 2nd attempt

We then with on to Zul’Jin who was quite the complex fight.  He has 5 phases every 20% where he takes on a different spirit.  Our first attempt I botched because I forgot which key I had bound Mass Dispel to.  Apparently Mass Dispel is required to do this boss, and if I don’t do it we all die.  No pressure or anything.  So the next attempt I properly remembered and did it.  I was terrified the whole time and would stop healing a few seconds before he did it so I could concentrate and make sure I got it.  We got him down to 8% but lost too many people in that stupid Eagle phase and then the Lynx Phase.

My most hated phase of ZJ

I abosolutely hated this phase with an absolute passion.  You have these little tornadoes going around everywhere that hit you and cause you damage and bounce off run somewhere else.  The other part of this is every time you cast a spell, instant or other wise you take 1200 damage.  This is where I am really glad I’ve been working on my HP :)   Our biggest problem in this phase was apparently moving too much.  Apparently if you stand your ground it bounces and moves away but if everyone kept moving it was impossible to avoid it and you had it going everywhere.

Almost got him again!

Our second to last attempt we got him to 10% but couldn’t close the deal.  We had only one healer up which was the problem mostly.  Well there wasn’t enough DPS up either to finish the job with only one healer.  It was another solid attempt but the druid who was the raid leader had to go.

People wanted to try again so we replaced him with a Hunter since technically we just needed more Melee dps.  We tested standing still in the eagle phase which worked well got to the Lynx phase and lost the tank.  I’m not sure what the other 2 healers were doing when he went down.  I was healing him and then had just switch to myself (being almost dead) from one of his little rampages and bleeds he put on me.  Everyone gave up after that.    I was really hoping to defeat him after putting all that hard work.  I actually really enjoyed myself though.

The whole time i was there I wished I had Circle of Healing  I was able to take care of my group pretty well with Prayer of Healing however.  On Hexlord I think it was they had asked if I had CoH though I don’t know why since I had been putting Spirit on everyone but anyways.  I guess it was becase of the AOE damage Hexlord did however I got my group no problem with Prayer of healing.  It was the other group that was out of luck but we did havev a Shaman Healer.  Circle of Healing would be fun now though I think.  I would miss the extra 50 spirit and 10% damage and healing from spirit though.  I might consider it,  I think I want the 51 point holy talent in WOTLK anyways :)

All in all and entertaining night!

First Zul’Aman Run

by Laneer on Mar.11, 2008, under Gameplay

Well I finally made it into a Zul”Aman run and my was it painful.  It was a very pretty zone that reminded me a lot of Zul’Gurub.  I can’t say I enjoyed myself all that much though.

Zul’Aman Enterance

Started off at that big door Inian and I found.  It was interesting at how long you have to bang on that gong before the door opens.  I guess it is for dramatic effect.  What I didn’t know is after the door is open you have a 15 minute timer to get to the first boss to save some souls.  If you do you are rewarded, as I understand this is where the Bear mount comes in.  Which is most cool looking (not that I don’t love my silver talbuk!)

Chasing down the First boss

The trash in the front was relatively easy.  Though I was already uneasy about things when they were talking about using MY fear as CC.  My fear is fairly useless except in PvP and barely useful in that.

The trash we wiped to like 10 times

So here we are at the first boss staring at the trash pack in front of him.  We got there with plenty of time on the timer to kill him, however the group makeup did not include any CC.  So they thought we would some how magically make it work.  So we wiped to this pack, I have no idea how many times.   I Think I had 50% durability by the time we started the boss.  We actually spent like 30 minutes finding a mage to bring here just to sheep one of the guys so we could defeat the trash then the mage left.  Then we wiped at least once, maybe twice on the actual boss.  The boss was relatively easy, just a tank and spank but some how we managed.  Of course he dropped Melee gear because I was here :P   It some was some hunter gear that Thya got.  This guy drops a neat healing robe.

The Gauntlet to the bird boss

On to the eagle boss.  To get to him you have to run a gauntlet like thing ala suppression roomin BWL, or the bug tunnel in AQ40.   Stuff keeps respawning until you get to this little mini boss at the top of the hill and kill him.  We didn’t have any problems with doing this either.

Bird Boss

The eagle boss was a neat fight.  He did a variety of things such as toss people way high up (hurray for levitate), throws a nature damage debuff on you and does this storm attack where everyone has to hug the boss or you all die.  Well guess what happened on the first try? :P   You guessed it one person didn’t listen and we all died. The boss also has some bird adds that fly over and hover around and divebomb random people.  They got me a few times, not a huge amount of damage but we had a couple people picking them off.   We actually quit after a few wipes to this boss because you only have so much time to defeat him.  The zone eventually started to respawn and that was it.

I’m not sure how I compare in +Healing to Thailos and Naiyaa I think I’m pretty close.  I was looking at the healing meters which Thailos loves to post which are completely silly.  Basically I just kept renew on the tanks, kept up the dps, threw POM around constantly and on the bosses tossed GHeals on the tanks.  No matter how I’m geared, I’m not going to beat a Paladin spamming heals, because to be honest there wasn’t any healing to do most of the time.  I could try spamming flash heals to see if I could beat them to the punch but that would be silly and a waste of mana.  Priests were not built for spam healing anyways.

I think my point is my healing was just as valuable, any healing is really.  Being at the top of a meter healing doesn’t really mean anything because if I stopped healing we would loose.  It’s funny usually people don’t beat Thailos’s pally heal spam but he has a disadvantage against a restro druid in Tree form.  The Naiyaa basically was getting all the healing in first by keeping all the HOTS on them, so all Thailos was doing is over healing even more than usual.  I was doing most of my healing with Renew as well.  Besides POM doesn’t even count as my healing and I like using that a lot too because it is such an efficient spell.  I always shoot for the least over healing, I want to make the best use of my mana as possible.
